Callista Gingrich Pens a Children’s Book

Callista Gingrich wants America to meet an elephant named Ellis.
The wife of GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has written a children’s book called Sweet Land of Liberty and appeared on “Fox and Friends” with the main character on Tuesday. Callista brought along someone in an elephant suit (Newt? Is that you?) to discuss the illustrated book.
“We’ve created a character Ellis the Elephant who takes children through the pivotal moments of our history to say what a great nation this is,” Callista explained, adding, “This is really a patriotic book. It’s not a Republican book, it’s not a conservative book. It’s a pro-American book.”
Though the author insists that Ellis isn’t necessarily a Republican, she said he’s a fan of her husband. “Ellis is pro-American, but he’s very fond of Newt,” she said.
And how does the former House speaker feel about Ellis? “He really likes the little guy,” said Callista.
Newt, who wasn’t inside the elephant suit after all, joined the interview before it wrapped up. “I watched Callista write this…” he said of his wife. “Children’s books are hard. And it’s a great creative thing. I think parents will find it and grandparents will find it a really good Christmas gift.”
