The Gingrich Foundation is pleased to announce that the Twin Tower Orphan Fund is the September Charity of the Month, in honor of its work to support children who lost a parent as a result of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Twin Tower Orphan Fund provides financial support for the education and health care of those who died at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, or on Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The Fund contributes to the cost of college tuition, room, and board for those students who are pursuing higher education. It also offers assistance with health care costs, including support for health insurance premiums, as well as mental health care and counseling.
Following the attacks, co-founders W. Knox Richardson and Michele Ritter for seven months put up their own money to help start the fund. Their effort has since expanded to include the financial support of many others: the Fund has distributed more than $8 million for the benefit of children who lost their parents on Sept. 11, 2001. Ninety percent of the money raised has been spent or allocated directly for the children affected by the attacks.
To date, their work has touched more than 1,200 children.
No one can forget the tragic events that unfolded 11 years ago this week. A child who was then seven years of age, losing his or her parent in the attacks, would this month be starting college. As the Twin Towers Orphan Fund puts it well, “The greatest tribute we can raise to honor those lost, is their children.”
Please join us in supporting the Twin Tower Orphan Fund today.
