Greta Van Susteren: A new children’s book is teaching kids about our country. The author? Callista Gingrich. She stopped by with her husband former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

Callista, Mr. Speaker, nice to see you.

Callista Gingrich: Thank you.

Newt Gingrich: You bet.

Van Susteren: This is fun. A brand new book “Land of the Pilgrim’s Pride” starring –
Callista Gingrich: Ellis the elephant.

Van Susteren: This is not Ellis’ first appearance.

Callista Gingrich: It is not. This is his second book. The first is “Sweet Land of Liberty.” In this book, “Land of the Pilgrim’s Pride,” Ellis discovers colonial America.

Van Susteren: How do you coming up come up with the concept?

Newt Gingrich: I don’t know how she picked it. I was for a hamster at one point. I lost.

(Laughter)

Van Susteren: Good to know that.

Newt Gingrich: Henry the hamster, you know, didn’t have the same ring.

Callista Gingrich: I knew we needed a unique character to capture the interest of children. And I considered a lot of animals, but in the end I couldn’t resist this adorable little elephant.

Van Susteren: I love how the language is so simple so even members of Congress could understand it?

(Laughter)

Newt Gingrich: I don’t think she quite gets down to that point.

Van Susteren: It’s a great book. What is the next one?

Callista Gingrich: We’re going to do a book on the American Revolution.
VAN SUSTEREN: When will that come out?

Callista Gingrich: Probably within one year.

Van Susteren: So you’ll be back. Ellis is busy. And this is nonpartisan, is that right?

Callista Gingrich: That is right. It’s a pro-American book. It’s not meant to be conservative or Republican. But I really hope people will see it as a celebration of our patriotic values of our country.

Van Susteren: Thank you both.

Callista Gingrich: Thank you.

Newt Gingrich: Thank you.
