Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said Republicans must strengthen their backbone and begin aggressively questioning Democrats the way Attorney General Jeff Sessions was on Tuesday.

Gingrich said America is in a “clear-cut cultural civil war” and that “[not] enough Republicans get it.”

He said that Sessions was a passionate defender of himself and his boss and was unafraid to go “nose to nose” with liberals like Sens. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.).

Gingrich said that Republicans should look at the real question at hand following the Comey testimony.

He said the issue is the way former A.G. Loretta Lynch allegedly directed him to use Clinton campaign language in his probe.

He said possible allegations against Lynch would be much stronger than anything posed against Sessions.

Gingrich called it a “mistake” for Republicans not to take-on people like Lynch and President Clinton over their Phoenix tarmac meeting.

“How can you have a Republican House and a Republican Senate and not bring in the former president and former attorney general [to find out] what they were discussing?” Gingrich asked.
