The Gingrich Foundation is proud to recognize the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) as our October Charity of the Month in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor Janelle Hail, who was first diagnosed with the disease in 1980 at age 34. At the time, she found the information available to her and other women seeking treatment was limited. She established NBCF to fill this void, and for nearly three decades, the Foundation has been dedicated to early detection of breast cancer and education about the disease.

Early detection of breast cancer is critical to survival. To increase the likelihood of early detection, NBCF helps to make sure that all women have access to potentially life-saving screenings through its National Mammography Program. Through this program, NBCF provides free mammograms to women across America, who would otherwise be unable to afford them. This preventative screening saves lives by enabling women to detect the disease before it advances to a later stage. A list of facilities in the National Mammography Program’s network can be found here.

NBCF’s “Beyond the Shock” program also serves as an online platform to help educate women about breast cancer. In addition to its excellent educational materials, the website features an online community where women diagnosed with breast cancer and their relatives can interact with others who are coping with the disease, and ask questions of medical professionals.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during her lifetime. Thankfully, with early detection, this disease is increasingly survivable. NBCF’s efforts are helping thousands of women across the country win their battle against breast cancer. Please join us in supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation this month.
