Callista Gingrich plays the French horn with the City of Fairfax Band in Fairfax, Virginia, promoting musical growth and education among area residents and students. She also sings with the Choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, a resident professional choir. Newt and Callista are enthusiastic supporters of the arts.     Music has a profound impact upon the Basilica’s liturgical celebrations. The Choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine, a resident professional choir, provides the music on Sundays and on principal feast days. The choir also records on a regular basis. In March of 2005, the Choir visited Rome, Italy to honor Pope John Paul II, and recorded a compact disc entitled Pope John Paul II: A Celebration of Life and Faith. The Band performs frequently in Fairfax, Virginia, and has also performed over the years at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The City of Fairfax Band is an all volunteer ensemble that consists of over 120 musicians from throughout the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, and has been entertaining audiences since 1969. The band was awarded the Sudler Silver Scroll by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. The Sudler Silver Scroll is regarded as North America's most prestigious award for community concert bands.
