Rediscovering God in America: Reflections on the Role of Faith in Our Nation's History

The APNewt Gingrich has gained the esteem of his peers through his work in government, most notably as the Speaker of the House under which Congress accomplished many things -- notably the first balanced budget in a generation.

In Newt Gingrich’s book, Rediscovering God in America, (DVD available here), he takes the reader on an exploration of America's history as he invites readers to take a walk in Washington, D.C. The book centers around a key question: Does God belong in the public square and what role should faith play in the future? Fox News personality Sean Hannity has said that the book "has personally deepened my own faith." This book remains as relevant today as it was upon its 2006 publication. The book outlines the fact that America was indeed founded on Christianity while concurrently enforcing freedom of religion. It details this fact and takes the reader back to the drafting of the Constitution. Gingrich declares that it is not a misunderstanding of the vision of our founding fathers but a complete lack of education on the subject as the impetus in the liberal versus conservative feud over what it means to be religious in a country where its citizens are free from religious persecution.

Gingrich Eyes Possible White House Run in 2012

Associated Press

The AP
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — More than a decade after he stepped down as speaker of the House into what seemed like almost certain political oblivion, Newt Gingrich is back and seemingly more relevant than ever.

Gingrich seems to be everywhere these days, headlining an endless circuit of GOP dinners, popping up on TV news shows, authoring yet another best-selling book and acting as a policy guru to out-of-power congressional Republicans on how to do battle with the Democratic White House.

As beleaguered Republicans look for a standard bearer after last year's disastrous election, they've been tossing around the names of flashy new stars like Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the 2008 vice presidential candidate, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, young and Indian American in a party that's increasingly identified with older white men.

How far has Newt Gingrich come in ten years?

The News FactorThe News Factor

Having witnessed it from the inside, the answer is ‘light years’ (or maybe more accurately, ‘enlightening years’). He seems everywhere these days. No one seriously questions his resurgence on the national stage as a leading voice in the national debate over America’s future. To re-achieve this stature, his accomplishments are notable.

First, there is that which people see. Newt is a regular contributor on FOX News and has become one of the most watched commentators on television today. In cable news, there are ’surf starters’ (people whose appearance prompt viewers to start channel surfing) and ’surf stoppers’ (people who viewers will stop to hear what the person has to say).

Cable news folks love ’surf stoppers.’ Newt is one of the most reliable surf stoppers on television. Part of this stems from the fact that no one knows what Newt Gingrich will say on any given day or on any given topic.

newt_on_oreillyO'REILLY: Now for the top story tonight, reaction to this. Joining from us Washington, FOX News analyst Newt Gingrich, who is the host of a new documentary get it on DVD called "Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny." Is it just that the Europeans are scared? Is that what it is all about?

NEWT GINGRICH: Well look, I think that the Europeans have had some 65 years of sheltering behind the United States. We provided the muscle for NATO. We were prepared to defend them from the Soviet Union. We ended up being involved in conflicts arranged the world. And largely, they have been able to live in a nice, pleasant dream world where there were no threats, there were no difficulties. And in the process, you've had a secular decay of European society, so that there's not much they would defend.

If you notice, the rise of militant Islam inside the European countries, there is no natural basis for a secular aging prosperous Europe to defend itself from anything either at home or abroad.

But in addition, my fear is that and I think I probably disagree with you on this, Bill. I think President Obama is actually, in many ways, a pan European in his thinking about the world. He promised yesterday, for example, that we would take strong measures at the U.N. about the North Korean missile firing. The fact is the U.N. meeting yesterday was a joke. The Chinese and the Russians refused even to consider the missile firing a problem. Nothing will be accomplished. And the North Koreans, like the Iranians, will move forward with their efforts to get nuclear weapons and missiles as delivery systems.

Craig Shirley: New Reagan Documentary Superb, Heroic Work

Newsmax

Craig Shirley

Last fall, during the heated debate over George Bush’s plan to bail out failing but politically connected banks, several commentators went on cable shows and stated categorically that Ronald Reagan would have supported the effort.

Of course, this was reckless in the extreme. No one will ever know whether the Gipper would have favored such a harebrained scheme as using taxpayer money to reward the malfeasance of investment bankers. Given that Reagan once told the International Monetary Fund to go pound salt down a rat hole when they squandered $4 billion in taxpayers’ dollars; that he fired illegally striking air traffic controllers without batting an eye; and that he walked away from Reykjavik and Mikhail Gorbachev, one rightly suspects the motives of those who now claim to fully understand the 40th president.

Suffice it to say, the body of evidence indicates Reagan likely would have opposed the bank bailout. But no one will ever know.

Newt on Hannity from the Reagan Library

FOXNews.com
March 13, 2009

MR. HANNITY: All right. It looks like the White House has been reading the poll numbers that Americans are not exactly embracing their agenda. As pollsters Doug Schoen and Scott Rasmussen pointed out in The Wall Street Journal today, "The president's numbers have now dipped below where George W. Bush's numbers were at the same point in his presidency in 2001." And that's what Americans should keep in mind when they see such tactical political moves by the White House. This is just more politics as usual, not the change that you can believe in.

And joining me tonight is the former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Mr. Speaker, good to see you. It looks like you're sitting in the Oval Office. Am I right?

MR. GINGRICH: Well, I'm actually at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California. They've built an Oval Office for high school and elementary school students to come and have various scenarios and find out what it's like to make big decisions and to be in these rooms. It's a great facility. And of course, it's in our movie "Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny."

But the thing that struck me with what you just reported, Sean, is that if you come here and you look at how Reagan led the nation out of malaise, how he led it out of an economic disaster, how he led it to ultimately win the Cold War, optimism and a confident belief in the American people was at the heart of the Reagan tradition. And it's kind of nice to see President Obama begin to leave the Jimmy Carter language and try to embrace more of a Ronald Reagan optimism. And it will be interesting to see if he can sustain it over the next week or two.

Gingrich Presents Film on Ronald Reagan at Library

Ventura County Star

Michele Willer-Allred

It was a Friday night at the movies, but not in your typical movie venue, for several hundred guests who crowded into the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Musuem in Simi Valley to view the Newt Gingrich-produced documentary about the former president.

The former speaker of the House and his wife, Callista, hosted the sold-out event inside the Presidential Learning Center at the Library, where guests ate popcorn, laughed and clapped during poignant moments while watching the 90-minute movie called “Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny.”

He followed the event by signing DVD copies of the movie, which is available at the Library bookstore.

The movie documents the life and legacy of Reagan, with interviews with former heads of state, Cabinet officials, White House staff and journalists. It focuses on how Reagan revived the American economy and challenged the oppression of the Soviet Union.
