In Recognition of International Literacy Day, the Gingrich Foundation has recognized Reading Is Fundamental as its September Charity of the Month. For nearly 45 years, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) has provided books to children to foster a love of reading and develop skills that are critical to learning.
To date, RIF has given away more than 380 million books to children. Last year alone, through its Books for Ownership Program, RIF provided 15 million new books to 4 million children in all 50 states.
“RIF is committed to continuing its legacy of providing books to the millions of under served children in this country,” said Carol H. Rasco, president and CEO of RIF. “Studies show that having access to books has positive behavioral, educational, and psychological outcomes for children, and we will continue our efforts to inspire more children to become lifelong readers.” |

Human Events September 7, 2011 Newt Gingrich
When I first read last week about dozens of federal agents descending on an admired American business with automatic weapons drawn, I thought the story was bizarre. When I learned that what prompted this attack was the Justice Department’s interpretation of an Indian law, in a way that even India doesn’t interpret it, I could hardly believe it was true. The government’s actions are so outside normal behavior, so lacking in common sense and such an outrage against the freedom of every American that it sounds like a scene from a dystopian novel. |

They could not be more different in their backgrounds and experiences in life and government, but a hybrid version of them (and the strengths of their respective messages) could be the winning ticket in the GOP primary and against President Barack Obama in 2012. |

Republic presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich had a few sharp words for the president about job creation just before Labor Day.
The former House Speaker and his wife Callista were at the Taste of Polonia on Chicago's Northwest Side on Sunday. They were promoting their new documentary "Nine Days that Changed the World," which is about Pope John Paul II and his nine-day pilgrimage to Poland in 1979.
But as the well-known conservative mingled with Chicago's Polish Community, he was also talking jobs and criticizing President Barack Obama, who is spending his holiday weekend at Camp David working on his jobs speech which he will present to a joint session of Congress this week. |
