“Nine Days that Changed the World” is one of the truly great Catholic documentaries. Yet it does not appeal to Catholics alone, and one doesn’t have to be a Catholic to see and understand it. Pope John Paul II loved the world and changed the world and he spoke to all of mankind. Yet, viewing this film through a lens of faith is truly a rewarding experience.

The film is very moving on many levels. Seeing the charismatic and athletic John Paul II wooing and winning his people with words, gestures and warmth brings waves of loving nostalgia to all those who knew him. John Paul II's deference to Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, primate of Poland, is particularly touching. The "Nine Days that Changed the World" project is a heartening example of the great vocation of laypeople: a politician, using a solid study of history and the innovative dazzle of media, to recount the inspiring and uplifting truth.

It strengthened my faith. It reminded me of what is possible…I wish for all countries that are under the yoke of socialism/communism or sliding towards this oppressive system of government to experience this phenomenal documentary…As a child in Cuba I saw the demise of our culture. I saw the end of freedom. Churches were shut- down. Priest, nuns and pastors of all faiths were also subject to exile, persecution, imprisonment, and execution. Nine Days that Changed the World made me relive my Cuban experience. I wish that at that time I had the opportunity to watch this film while living the hell of communism. The film reminds Americans that freedom does not come easily for many. When the Vatican announced that the Pope planned to travel to Poland in June of 1979, Soviet authorities were aghast.
